DL: Tell us about the inspiration behind your collection.
Kate: Finders Keepers August collection ‘Checkmate’ is a refreshing range of clean cut styles. Think Grecian draping meets ivory sets stained with gentle floral printing, splashes of neon alongside cool blue houndstooth. Hints of mesh and denim combine with impeccable tailoring to add edge and contrast against softer maxi and shift styles. Infusing our trademark sports aesthetic throughout, for a collection of must have pieces.
DL: What do you think makes Australian fashion stand out from the rest of the world?
Kate: I think in particular our styling and laid-back attitude. I think this can be seen though the garments and look of ranges/how we wear them. They are generally fun, bright and easy wearing.
DL: Which piece from your collection is your absolute favorite?
Kate: ‘The Lovesick Blazer’ is my favorite from this collection. The relaxed/oversized fit makes it comfortable and pared with the floral print matching shorts makes for much loved Finders Keepers suit.
DL: What trends are you most excited for this Fall/Winter?
Kate: I’m a huge fan of tartan – but moving this into amazing brushed coat weights and jumpers for Fall/Winter.
DL: What is your go-to outfit when you’re running late in the morning?
Kate: The ‘Float On Dress’ in grey marle with leather leggings and my Isabel Marant Sneakers.
DL: What fashion faux pas are you breaking and doing well?
Kate: I love to wear double grey marle – it’s my favorite faux pas to break!
DL: What trend do you wish would go away… forever?
Kate: Socks with open-toe shoes.
DL: What was your favorite thing to wear as a kid?
Kate: I was a bit of a tomboy growing up so I lived in surf gear. Board shorts and t-shirts basically all year round.
DL: Who do you think is the most innovation fashion influencer of today?
Kate: I think bloggers in general are having a huge influence on designers and the Fashion industry. They are very powerful at the moment. The likes of Aimee Song, Garry Pepper Vintage, Zanita, Chriselle Lim, See Want Shop, VivaLuxury to name a few.
DL: What piece of fashion advice would you give to all your fans out there?
Kate: Be prepared to work hard and get your hands dirty, its not always glamorous. It’s also nothing like the movie ‘The Devil Wear Prada’.
